In my work for the Detoa company, I tried to develop a new, safe, modern and crisp look for children’s wooden toys. My product is an airplane which you can glide along a rope. The groove to fit onto the rope is in the plane. It is stable because the groove is lined with a metal pin. Children from five to ten years old tested prototypes and were very happy and engaged with them. The toys can be used by younger children, because the plane has very round edges and is safe for little children. I wanted to develop the creativity of children. Not like today’s games with a lot of plastic materials. Wooden toys have also become more popular in recent years. The child takes a string and hangs it anywhere. Then the child pushes the plane upwards and sends it down on a rope. The child can send a plane on the rope from the house to the garden or wherever the child wants. Because of its very tactile shape, the plane can be played with on its own, without the rope. I used the contrast of light varnished wood and vivid colours, to give a fresh design.
